San Josef Bay is a 2 hour and 15 minute (approximately) drive from the Inn on Stephens Bay, with an average one way hiking time of 45 minutes (2.5 km), San Josef Bay is the easiest and most accessible Cape Scott beach. And the best part is one still gets to experience a taste of Cape Scott’s unique features without having to even break a sweat!

The Inn on Stephens Bay in Coal Harbour, B.C. on the northern end of Vancouver Island is the closest Bed and Breakfast to San Jo Bay.
The road to Holberg is an active logging road with some potholes and uneven terrain, but with careful driving the drive in is less than 2 hours.
The hike in (45 - 60 minutes) is on a well maintained trail through beautiful old growth forest.
A nice 3-4km long loop around the river, passing beside a campground and a salmon hatchery. In autumn you can watch the salmon spawning.
A good place for wildlife viewing. Bald eagles catching fish can be seen especially when the salmon are spawning.
The Fort Rupert Trail is a nice and easy 7,4km hike near Port Hardy that will allow you to explore the natural beauty of the West Coast temperate rainforest. The Trailhead is found on the road to the ferry terminal on the right side.
In Port Hardy you will find all the necessary shops, services and restaurants. Also medical care is guaranteed.
Marble River Park on northern Vancouver Island offers excellent opportunities for wilderness hiking, biking, wildlife viewing and fishing.
You can take the ferry from Port McNeill to Malcolm Island and visit there the Bere Point Provincial Park with wonderful views of the sea and the coastal mountains.
